Early Life and Career
Justin Trudeau was born in Ottawa, Ontario, on December 25, 1971. He is the eldest son of former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau and Margaret Trudeau. Trudeau attended McGill University and the University of British Columbia, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in literature and a Bachelor of Education degree, respectively. After graduating, he taught French and mathematics at a private school in Vancouver.
In 2000, Trudeau entered politics when he was elected as the Liberal Party of Canada's candidate for the riding of Papineau. He successfully campaigned on a platform of environmental sustainability and social justice, and he won his seat in the House of Commons in the 2000 federal election.
